New Release: Melrose Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2011
As we were returning back to our hometown of Eugene, Oregon from a one night stay at the incredible Delfino Vineyards B&B located in the heart of the lush, rolling hills of the Umpqua Valley wine region (a whole other story), we took a wrong turn trying to get back to Interstate 5. This wrong turn brought us right to a vineyard that I’m so glad we didn’t miss visiting: Melrose Vineyards.
The rain was pouring down, and we could barely see the sign, but because we saw rows and rows of vines, we promptly turned into the driveway that led us towards a marvelous, rustic, big, brown barn. Once we were inside the barn, which housed the tasting room, it was anything but rustic. A beautiful tasting room and gift shop filled the barn from wall to wall. Tiled flooring and painted walls added an elegant ambiance, and the tasting area was warm and inviting.
With a rather large selection of wines to try, we decided to sample one of the whites and several of the reds. Because we both absolutely love Sauvignon Blanc, this was one of the four whites we chose to try. Very newly released, as in, it was just released that morning, we were the very first customers to ever try the Melrose 2011 Sauvignon Blanc.
A little swirl of the glass revealed gorgeous aromas of honeydew melon, pineapple and freshly mown grass. Bright and crisp up front, mid-palate flavors included passion fruit, pineapple and honeycrisp apple along with a Meyer lemon finish (Meyer lemons are just a tad bit sweeter than regular lemons).
This was one lusciously mouthwatering, really delicious, Sauvignon Blanc, and I’m thrilled to be the first person to review and rave about this beauty of a wine – I’m sure there will be plenty more rave reviews to follow.
