Delfino Vineyards Muller Thurgau and Fresh Oregon Dungeness Crab

We were recently camping at my favorite campground on the Oregon Coast, and a rare occurrence happened: there was absolutely no coastal wind, not a cloud in the sky and the temperatures hovered just below eighty degrees for two days in a row.  The Oregon coast is known for overcast days, and chilly, wind blistering walks along the beach, so when the sun is shining and the wind is null and void, it’s an unusual treat that needs to not be taken for granted. As luck would have it, our next door camping neighbors had gone fishing and crabbing, and they returned to their camp site with a whopping 51 fresh Dungeness crabs! Like the good neighbors they were, they invited us, along with several other campers, to join in on their crab feast.

Luckily, we had a couple bottles of excellent Muller Thurgau from Umpqua Valley’s Delfino Vineyards. Although I would usually pair a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris with fresh cracked crab, a recent tasting of this Muller Thurgau showcased a crisper and dryer wine with pineapple and citrus notes along with a beautifully crisp finish – one of the best Muller Thurgaus I’ve ever had, and I knew right away that this was going to be one ambrosial food and wine pairing…and, as everyone agreed, it was.

Just 3 of the 51 crabs many campers enjoyed
