Abacela Albariño 2010

I first tried Abacela’s 2010 Albariño back in March when I visited Umpqua Valley’s Abacela Winery. The winemaker was getting ready to release the 2011 Albariño, so the 2010 was offered at a great deal for a case purchase – at just $9 dollars a bottle. Needless to say, a case was brought home.

Yesterday, some friends and I went to see Eugene’s popular, funky, 70’s, disco band: Satin Love Orchestra. Satin Love was offering a free concert in the park, so we packed up our lawn chairs, blankets, food and, of course, wine. I immediately thought the Abacela Albariño would be the perfect wine to enjoy on a hot sunny summer day, so in the cooler it went.

This divine wine was exactly as I described months ago: Abacela’s 2010 Albariño displayed gorgeous aromas of peach, apple and pineapple. On the palate, super crisp lime and lemon zest were accompanied by loads of juicy grapefruit with a hint of pineapple. Bright and lively acidity carried through to a medium length, deliciously tart finish.

Every sip was enjoyed while we boogie woogied to the oh so familiar tunes of the 70’s, like, Disco Inferno by the Trammps, Rose Royce’s Car Wash and The Village People’s YMCA.

Good friends, good wine, good music. Life is good.
