Pair This: Halloween Wines and Horror Films for Two

In my recent post about spooky themed wine, Wickedly Wicked Wines for Halloween, I named my top five wines that are ghoulishly perfect for those party-goers either hosting a monster mash of their own or heading out to a friend’s haunted house. But, for those who prefer to turn the porch light off and curl up on the couch with a loved one to watch a marathon of horror movies, the perfect wickedly wicked wines for Halloween are from Naked Winery – wines that are sure to turn up the heat. After all, Halloween is not just for kids.

The 2011 Foreplay Chardonnay is filled with seductive apple, pear and hazelnut aromas that follow through on to the palate with additional lemon/lime zest. The finish is crisp with a hint of toast. Juicy and light bodied, this is the perfect way to start an evening…in. Pair this with the classic 1978 film, Halloween, where the murderous Michael Meyers has no patience for people engaging in foreplay.

The 2009 Naked Merlot has beautiful grape jam and dark cherry aromas that offer a hint of smoke. On the palate, plums, cedar and cocoa enhanced by a bit of mint are rounded out with lush tannins on a smooth, medium length finish. Hold on to your honey with one hand and your glass with the other for this wine and movie pairing, because Friday the 13th will have you inching your way closer and closer to one another while Jason tears apart lovers at a woodsy, lakeside campground.

2009 Tease Riesling is a lightly sweet Riesling filled with apricot, jasmine and orange blossom aromas that are able to tease the palate with a zesty lemon finish. One of the top horror films of the late 90’s turned out to be quite a tease: The Blair Witch Project. Aimed at making people believe the film was an actual documentary when it was actually a fiction film, many people were tricked into believing it was real…when it was all just a tease. Scary enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, Tease Riesling and The Blair Witch Project will have the two of you huddling close together all through the night.
