Event: Northwest Food and Wine Festival

Last year, I attended the Northwest Food and Wine Festival and was surprised at the diversity of happenings and offerings. This half day celebration represents the Northwest’s highest quality wines, spirits, beers and food. Cuisine from the areas well-known chefs and restaurants, a professional chefs Pate in Portland contest and a professional cocktail competition are some of what makes this fest stand out from others. From locally produced hard ciders, whiskeys and sakes, to handcrafted wine, beer and soda, there’s truly a plethora of beverages to be sampled. Because handmade pate, salami and meats are very prevalent in the Portland food scene, some of the food samples were delicacies like Foie Gras, Steak Tartare and Quail Egg; in addition to, more traditional hors d’oeuvres and entrees. In fact, this event tapped into a niche that had not yet been tapped – the Northwest Food and Wine Festival was the first event to have a pate contest.

Read about my full experience in an article I wrote on Eugene Daily News: Pinot, Pate and Unexpected Palatables in Portland.
