What’s In My Glass Today?

While out with friends at a wine bar last week, a wine enthusiast friend shared a sip of this wine with me and I was immediately impressed with the out spoken flavors and aromas. Naturally, a bottle came home with me.

The impressive wine was the St. Innocent 2009 Vitae Springs Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

At first pop of the cork and sip of the wine, I felt it needed a good amount of time to decant, so I waited about forty minutes to pour a whole glass. Even after forty minutes of decanting, this wine was intense, but it was extremely well balanced in spite of its intensity. Cranberry (an aroma I’ve found in almost every ’09 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir) and cherry aromas dominated, and the flavors matched the aromas with some hints of cedar and earth.

I’m pretty sure this is one of those Pinots that could be cellared for several years to come and improve with age; however, it’s one that’s definitely being enjoyed by me, right now.
