Pair This: Latah Creek Monarch Red & Super Sharp Cheddar

As soon as I popped the cork on the NV Latah Creek Monarch Red, I knew I’d soon be sipping a big, bold red. While I was pouring the just-uncorked wine, aromas of dark berries cinnamon and smoke filled the bowl of my wine glass. A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah and 10% Zinfandel certainly creates a rich and complex wine full of fruity, smoky and spicy flavors. At first sip, I was yearning for some food, so I headed to the fridge.

I went straight for the cheese drawer, and when I spotted the brick of Golden Age Cheese Super Sharp Cheddar, I cut a few slices and piled them on a cracker. The super rich, savory flavors of the cheese were a perfect match with the fruity, complex and bold flavors of the wine. An excellent pairing, and one I’m currently enjoying while sitting on the patio mesmerized by the colors of the setting sun beaming through the trees like wildfire. Cheers.
