In The Glass: Matello Souris 2010 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

While I was up in Portland for the Wine Bloggers Conference, I accepted an invitation to join wine blogging colleague, Frank Morgan of DrinkWhatYouLike.com, at Matello Winery for a special tasting with owner/winemaker, Marcus Goodfellow. We sampled through Goodfellow’s entire line of wine, including a Pinot Gris, Viognier, Chardonnay and four Pinot Noirs.

While I plan to write a detailed post about each of the fantastic wines we tried during our special tasting, this post is focused on my favorite of the four Pinot Noirs: the 2010 Souris Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Aromas of dark cherries, marionberries and cinnamon follow through onto the palate with additional forest floor and pie spice flavors. Luscious and juicy mid-palate, the finish is lively and vibrant, and the balance between acidity and tannins is simply ambrosialThis is truly an excellent representation of the unique terroir of the Willamette Valley. Drink now because it’s incredible, but it is definitely age worthy if you have more will power than I do.
