What’s In My Glass Today?
After starting a new exercise regimen last week, I ended up tearing my meniscus, which is basically a common knee injury. Common or not, this torn meniscus hurts, it’s made my knee resemble a melon, and I can barely walk.
The doctor has ordered me to ice, elevate and chill; in other words, I’ve been put on ‘bed rest.’ Feeling a little rebellious knowing that my friends are currently out enjoying happy hour, I just attempted to blow off the doctors by grabbing my crutches and heading towards the door. Alas, I didn’t get very far-my leg is simply not letting me get further than about ten steps (limps) away from my Lazyboy and laptop, so the robust rebel in me is more like a measly mouse today.
Forget the crutches, I decided to ice, elevate and chill with a glass of wine in hand. The wine that immediately came to mind while writing about feeling rebellious was a wine I purchased and put into the cellar several months ago: The Rebel Red, a 2009 red blend out of Columbia Valley, Washington by O’Shea Scarborough.
When I saw this wine on the shelf, I bought it because I loved the name, the label and the price. The label shopper in me does appear every now and then, and with a price tag under $15, this red blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Sangiovese, Syrah and bits of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon intrigued me.
The Rebel is BIG and BOLD, and it’s name is truly befitting. Dark fruit aromas lead to similar flavors with just the right amount of spice to add some bang. It’s smooth and luscious with a finish that’s bold yet well balanced.
Being confined to the Lazyboy ain’t so bad after all-when The Rebel is in my glass.
