Drink Now: Marché Benchmark Series Pinot Gris ’09

I recently attended a pre-grand opening party at the new H Boutique in Eugene, Oregon, and not only were gift bags handed out, but gourmet small-bites were passed out, the red carpet was pulled out, and a bartender was pouring glasses of wine to give out.

Although the red carpet was fun and the small bites were delicious, what really caught my attention was the wine: Marché Benchmark Series 2009 Pinot Gris. The reason why it caught my attention – Marché  is a locally owned French Restaurant located across the courtyard from the new H Boutique, and although I’ve eaten there on several occasions,  I was totally unaware they made their own wine.

I was wanting the low-down on the 2009 Marché Pinot Gris, but the bartender was as curious as I was – it was something she knew nothing about. Although I’m not able to tell you more specific details about this Pinot Gris, other than the fact that the grapes are from the Willamette Valley, I am able to tell you about the juice itself.

Tropical fruit and honeysuckle on the nose lead to crisp, bright pineapple and melon flavors with a medium length finish. It was quite refreshing and enjoyable, so this is the perfect time to drink it–while the sun is still warming the floor of the Willamette Valley.
