What’s In My Glass Today?
March, here in the Willamette Valley, has started out with some mind boggling weather. In the midst of a partly cloudy March 1st and 2nd, it snowed, rained, hailed and sleeted. Not even 24 hours after the sleet had drenched my hair during a sprint from the grocery store entry way to my car, the sun was shining, the skies were blue, and the temperature had rose from 30 degrees to 63 degrees.
Then the sleet came back two days later, and just yesterday, I spent the entire day sitting on my patio, soaking up the sun and warmth on a 70 degree day while enjoying a chilled Sauvignon Blanc.
As quick as I go from boots to flip flops, I go from winter warming red wine to summertime whites. The chilled white I savored in the sun yesterday was Kandarian Wine Cellar’s 2010 Blue Eye Sauvignon Blanc.
I absolutely, positively love this wine, and I love that it’s not from New Zealand, California or the Loire and Bordeaux regions of France: it’s grown and produced right here in the Willamette Valley.
Aromas of melon and grass lead to a mineral entrance with flavors of pineapple and lemon zest. Bright acidity along with the tropical and citrus fruit flavors creates an incredibly well rounded, well balanced crisp and refreshing white wine – heavenly on a sunny day spent soaking up the rays during a rare March occurrence.
Who knows, maybe it will snow again tomorrow, and I’ll get my boots back out and pull out a warm-me-up Cabernet Sauvignon.
Great piece, Julia…one of the things I like most about Spring (and Fall)…is that the days lend themselves to whites, and the nights are perfect for reds…We get to be reacquainted with friends we haven’t seen at our tables for a while, cook dishes we haven’t cooked for a season, and generally indulge ourselves in the celebration of life!
I couldn’t agree with you more…nicely said! And thank you for the kind words. Cheers to celebrating life!
